NAME: Azuma Yukishiro
CANON: A3! (Act! Addict! Actors!)
CANON POINT: End of Part 1
AGE: canonly "??" approximately 35
BACKGROUND:
In elementary school, Azuma's parents and elder brother passed away in an accident. As distant members of the family argued about who could take him in, Azuma realized for the first time that he was truly alone. Since his brother's body wasn't found, he grew his hair long and prayed for him to someday return. When he grew up, he became a "pro cuddler" or sleeping companion. His relaxed attitude and good looks made him very popular. Despite it not being a salaried job, he earns enough for a luxurious apartment and frequent international trips.
He first is introduced to MANKAI company by swooping in the help out two members of Autumn troupe. He then shows up for the Winter troupe auditions and is quickly accepted. Winter troupe's first practices are difficult as a rivalry with another company is coming to its peak. Quiet accusations fly, especially when they end up in an all-or-nothing show-vs-show battle.
However, with some supernatural help (that hadn't shown up for any other troupes), they overcome their differences and narrowly beat out the rival company. The result is enough money to completely eliminate MANKAI company's debt, allowing them to establish themselves as a permanent feature of Veludo Way.
PERSONALITY:
Outwardly, Azuma seems to be a person of many mysteries. He's mysteriously good looking, clearly older and wiser but no one knows how old, and he doesn't seem to have many troubles. When he shows up in the story the first time, he helps out two cast members with a quick-thinking bluff and then vanishes quickly after. He joins the theater company for simple motives: it seemed fun. Several other characters react strangely around Azuma because there's just something about him. Some define it as a "mature aura" but, whatever it is, it does cause a barrier between him and some cast members.
He doesn't intentionally put up this barrier, though. It seems to be his nature but, like several other cast members, his nature makes it difficult to connect to others. A constant running arc through Azuma's stories is the idea of loneliness. One of his castmates also notes that his perpetual smile "seems a bit sad." It's unknown to what degree of friendship he wants with the other cast members (one even jokes "what does friendship mean to you!?" when he appears to be flirting) but he certainly hates the idea of being alone.
Many of Azuma's issues with loneliness stem from an accident that happened to his family when he was younger. He fell ill on the eve of a family vacation and was left at home. He reflects on the fact that some part of him wanted to ask them to stay. He didn't want to be left alone but hesitated. His parents and brother died on that trip. He was left quietly haunted by the feeling that they could be alive if he had been more forward. It seems to not be in his nature, though. When he begins to struggle with loneliness while working with MANKAI company, he also fails to reach out and communicate with them. Instead, he isolates himself and vanishes without reason.
Azuma has had relationships and handles them with the "mature" air that the others expect of him. When winter troupe is discussing relationships he rather bluntly talks about how some want just sex, some are looking for something more, and it's a sharp contrast to everyone around him. Due to his past trauma, he'd describe his ideal relationship as one where he doesn't even have to ask the other person to stay- or a relationship where he can naturally ask someone to stay. That hasn't happened yet, despite takers.
While Azuma is often viewed as "gorgeous" by other characters, the stories do also show that he puts effort into maintaining that beauty. He has a skin care routine, takes good care of his hair, and enjoys talking with others about products and habits. It never seems to stretch into the realm of vanity, though. It's simply how he wants to be. There is the added benefit of beauty being a factor in his cuddling job, though, and several castmates comment he looks good with long hair.
Now, all evidence in the story suggests that Azuma's cuddling job is 100% chaste. It's simply a service for those who like to be held while sleeping or just have a good-looking guy nearby. This doesn't stop anyone from making assumptions, though, and Azuma very rarely says anything to assuage people's concerns. If anything, part of his appeal comes from that thin veneer of sensuality that goes into everything he does.
One of Azuma's strengths as an actor, noted by the director, is his aura. He's the kind of person that just seems to be a character. This makes him very good at some roles and yet it's also his weakness as an actor. When asked to go outside that niche, he finds a lot of difficulty. For example, he struggles with acting "angry" and in his personal life he says he can't remember the last time he ever yelled. In a future play, when asked to play a character that actually wants to be alone, he struggles because it's so at-odds with himself as a person.
He does work to improve these things within the context of the play. However, unlike some of his castmates, he's not an "acting junkie" who lives for the performance. If anything, his love for acting is linked to the fact that he has found a community here.
POWERS/ABILITIES:
Azuma is a normal human. His stamina is slightly worse than a normal person's. Everything he does is kinda sexy for some reason.

-Worn-out script with many notes
-Keyring with two keys on it
